Different Materials Require Different Point Grinding Methods
The materials we use for fish hook production include high-carbon steel, 82B steel, 304 stainless steel, and duplex stainless steel 2205.
Different materials have different physical properties, and their processing characteristics during grinding are not completely the same. Therefore, the same point grinding parameters cannot simply be applied to all materials.
During production, we adjust the grinding conditions according to the actual material and determine the final parameters based on the trial grinding results.
Even for the same material, the grinding parameters need to be readjusted when the fish hook wire diameter is different.
Therefore, during the point grinding process, we mainly make our judgment based on two factors:

Different Wire Diameters Require Adjustments to the Grinding Method
Wire diameter is a very important factor during the point grinding process.
The smaller the wire diameter of the fish hook, the smaller the amount of material available for grinding at the hook point. Therefore, greater attention needs to be paid to the grinding amount and hook point dimensions during the grinding process.
For fish hooks with larger wire diameters, more material needs to be removed, so the grinding method and parameters will also be different.
Therefore, when changing to products with different wire diameters, the equipment needs to be readjusted rather than directly using the production parameters of the previous specification.

What Dimensions Are Controlled During Point Grinding?
Fish hook point grinding is not simply about checking whether the hook point is “sharp.” The specific dimensions and shape of the hook point also need to be controlled.

Hook Point Length
The hook point length needs to meet the product specifications. Different fish hooks have different requirements for hook point length, so adjustments need to be made according to the specific product during production.
Hook Point Angle
The hook point angle is one of the key parameters that needs to be controlled during the point grinding process.
If there is a significant deviation in the angle, the hook point shapes within the same batch of fish hooks may become inconsistent.
Grinding Position
The grinding position needs to remain stable. If the grinding position changes, it can also affect the final shape of the hook point.
Grinding Amount
The grinding amount needs to be adjusted according to the material and wire diameter.
Insufficient grinding may prevent the hook point from meeting the requirements, while excessive grinding may cause dimensional deviations in the hook point.
Hook Point Consistency
During batch production, we pay greater attention to the consistency of the entire batch.
It is not enough to check whether an individual fish hook is qualified. We also need to confirm whether the dimensions and shape of the hook points remain stable throughout the same batch of products.

Before starting production of a new fish hook specification, we first confirm the product requirements.

Quality Inspection During Production
After entering batch production, process inspections are also carried out on the ground hook points.
During production, sampling inspections are conducted according to the product requirements to check whether the dimensions and shape of the hook points remain stable.
If changes in hook point length, angle, or abnormal grinding conditions are found, the equipment needs to be checked promptly and the processing parameters reconfirmed.
Products that do not meet the requirements are sorted out and do not directly enter the next process.
Common Problems During Point Grinding
Inconsistent Hook Point Length
This may be related to changes in equipment parameters, product positioning, or processing conditions.
After a problem is found, the equipment and production conditions need to be checked, and the point grinding parameters need to be reconfirmed.
Deviation in Hook Point Angle
Different fish hook specifications require corresponding point grinding parameters. If the equipment is not properly adjusted after changing product specifications, angle deviations may occur.
Excessive Grinding
Excessive grinding may cause changes in the hook point dimensions. Therefore, the grinding amount needs to be controlled according to the material and wire diameter.
Insufficient Grinding
If the grinding amount is insufficient, the hook point cannot meet the product requirements, and the processing parameters need to be readjusted.
Poor Consistency Within the Same Batch
If there are significant differences between the hook points of products in the same batch, the equipment condition, positioning, and production parameters need to be checked.
Intermediate Cutting After Point Grinding
After point grinding is completed, the continuous wire enters the intermediate cutting process.
Intermediate cutting cuts the ground wire according to the fish hook specifications, after which it enters the subsequent forming process.
